Scholarship

THE PROGRAM

The Gate City Chapter has established a scholarship program to assist Guilford County High School students who are pursuing a college education at North Carolina A&T State University. This scholarship is offered each year for full-time students attending North Carolina A&T State University.

This scholarship program is administered by the Gate City Chapter of North Carolina A&T State University Alumni Association.  Awards are granted without regard to race, color, creed, religion, sexual orientation, age, gender, disability or national origin. ELIGIBILITY

To be eligible, a candidate must:
(a): high school seniors who are currently enrolled in a Guilford County, North Carolina High School.
(b): applicant/recipient must register at North Carolina A&T State University as a full-time** student.
**full-time study is defined as full-time enrollment for the entire upcoming academic year.
(c): applicant must currently have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 (weighted) on a 4.0 scale (or its equivalent).
(d): applicant/recipient must not be the recipient of a full academic or athletic scholarship to North Carolina A&T State University.
(e): scholarship recipient must maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 (weighted) on a 4.0 scale at the end of each semester in order to continue receiving this scholarship and duration of enrollment at North Carolina A&T State University.

AWARDS

The Gate City Chapter of The North Carolina Agricultural & Technical State University Alumni Association’s scholarship is $1,000 usd per semester. Awards are for undergraduate study only, and not to exceed 4 years of study. Recipients must send a copy of current transcript to the Gate City Scholarship Committee at the end of each semester, to verify continuous eligibility.

APPLICATION

Interested students must complete the application in English and typed for your application to be considered, unofficial transcript of grades, a copy of FAFSA (free application for student aid) form (including expected family contribution), and 2 letters of recommendation (1-school, 1- community (non-relatives), typed resume, typed essay no later than February 28, 2020. Applications must be submitted on or before February 28, 2020, or application is denied.

SELECTION OF RECIPIENTS

Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of academic record, demonstrated leadership, participation in school and community activities, honors, work experience, statement of goals, aspirations. Financial need as calculated by Gate City Chapter Scholarship Committee must be demonstrated for the student to receive an award.

Selection of recipients is made by the Gate City Chapter Scholarship Committee. Upon application submission, all applicants agree to accept the decision as final.

Applicants will be notified of application status by March 1, 2020.  Not all applicants will be selected for a personal interview. The scholarship recipient will be contacted in March 31 , 2020 and a representative from the Gate City Chapter Scholarship Committee will attend your local high school awards day to present the award to you.

PAYMENT OF SCHOLARSHIPS

North Carolina A&T State University will process scholarship payments on behalf of the Gate City Chapter. Payments are made in two equal installments of $1000 USD each semester. Funds should be in the student’s account before the tuition bill is due.

OBLIGATIONS

Scholarship recipient must maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better in order to continue receiving this scholarship.

Recipients are expected to provide the local gate city chapter with a personal academic progress update in the fall & spring semesters of each academic year. The student is required to submit an official transcript at the end of each semester to the scholarship committee in order to continue receiving this scholarship.

Recipients are expected to keep in touch and provide updates to members of the scholarship committee about academic progress when requested.

Recipients are required to attend one of Gate City Alumni Chapter meetings.

Recipients are required to notify Gate City Chapter of any changes in address, school enrollment, cooperative education/internship assignment, or other relevant information.
